MEDIA ADVISORY
MIAMI HEAT GUARD GARY PAYTON AND FORWARD ANTOINE WALKER
TO SURPRISE FOSTER CARE KIDS WITH A HOLIDAY SHOPPING SPREE
December 14, 2006- Miami, FL
Who/What: HEAT Guard Gary Payton and Forward Antoine Walker will give 200 children in foster care the chance to do some holiday shopping at a Target store on Sunday, December 17, 2006. The shopping spree will come as a surprise for all these kids, who will gather at the American Airlines Arena and go on buses to an undisclosed location. At the store, they will be greeted by the two NBA stars, who will each provide a $100 gift card to 100 children. The athletes will also take pictures and sign autographs for all the kids, turning this day into an unforgettable memory.
This is the second year that Gary Payton has selected Voices For Children Foundation and the children served by the 11th Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Litem Program with his “How the Glove Gave Christmas” event. When Payton took 60 kids to a toy store in 2005, he noticed the needs the children had and decided to do it at a different store this year where they could get other items if they wanted to. This is the first time that Antoine Walker has agreed to take part in a holiday initiative to benefit Voices For Children Foundation.
When: Sunday, December 17, 2006, 5:00 p.m.
Where: Target store located at 3401 N Miami Ave Ste 100, Miami 33127.
Visuals: Children in foster care receiving gift cards and taking pictures with Gary Payton and Antoine Walker. Burnie and HEAT dancers with children and the NBA stars.
